Daan Nolen aka Sense Visuals 🕹️🎨
Daan is one of the founders of Veejays.com. As a student (bachelor's and master's degree in arts and media design at Minerva and HKU), he was one of the pioneers of the Amsterdam VJ scene.
Daan is an innovative software developer for online video tools — for example recently in a co-production with Peter Leung for, among others, the National Ballet — and many interactive video tools for medical and HR applications, such as Webcamconsult. This earned him a Spin Award and an Accenture Innovation Award with his company Sense Studios.
As a VJ he explores both extremely novel and very ancient technologies. His visual style is a mixture of grungy political and underground samples, sci-fi and anime references, a dash of erotica and a lot of compositing and handmade footage. He worked for, among others, ApenKooi, Johan Gielen and Wicked Jazz Sounds, and many corporate clients like ANWB, Bever and the Port of Rotterdam.
His Nu-VJing philosophy (very rapid real-time, associative interpretation of the DJ's music or concert) is now being rewritten by Daan into AI algorithms that may render the whole profession obsolete soon. He always chooses Chun-Li in Street Fighter.
